My Poor Baby

SO we have had an interesting week at Casa De O'Neale! It all started on Thursday morning when I got a message on my phone from school to say that Thomas had cut his lip falling over in the playground and I probably should come and have it checked by the doctor. 30 minutes later I am in the sick room at school and greeted with a very sad and sore little boy. He had been going to go across the monkey bars but missed when he jumped for it and tripped up and stumbled into the platform on the other side...face first!
I couldn't really see much through all the blood, so we just went to our local GP. When we got there we were able to see a bit better that he had knocked out one of his eye teeth, but were not sure of what other damage had been done. The GP was great and rang around the hospitals to see what the best course of action would be. They wouldn't have him, so we were bundled off to a specialists rooms in the city. With one look he could tell us that Thomas had broken the bone that held his top lip in place and he needed to have the four (yep, you heard me...FOUR) remaining front teeth out under general anasthetic the next day. Needless to say we were all in a bit of shock, but we got through the next day quite well, ending it with a massive movie marathon just he and I...which was nice. After spending the weekend with a fat lip, I am happy to say he is back to looking like his old self...until he smiles! Then he is just a pure gummy bear!
I was so proud of my boy these past few days. He must have been in so much pain, but throughout it all he was so brave. He has not complained once and is even quite proud of his new smile. I have even caught him practising it in front of the mirror a few times since.
While it is awful, we are focussing on the 'at leasts'...at least he didn't damage his neck, at least they were just baby teeth, at least no one else was involved, at least there will probably be no long term damage...and on the upside, he may even end up with straighter teeth as the eye tooth won't come down until he is at least 12 and he will have a while for those front four to set inplace with an extra gap. So stay tuned for some new look pics of Thomas soon...I will wait until his stitches are out before I take any though!

Oh No ! The poor thing, that must have hurt ! Rather strangely, I did EXACTLY the same thing when I was 8 years old, and pretty much landed head first onto the gravel and that's why I have that scar on my lip, I will show it to Thomas when I get back...
